Coffee Makers
Coffee Makers range from electric to manual. What are the differences between them all and does the type of coffee maker used make a difference to the taste?
Vacuum Coffee Maker – For example the Vacuum Coffee Maker produces one of the most pure cups of coffee. The vacuum pot is made out of glass. This is extremely sanitary (because you can see if it has been cleaned well) and you can see the coffee making process first hand. This is quite a conversation piece at a dinner party. Your guests can see first hand what the coffee brewing process looks like from start to finish. They are smelling an amazing brew and the final cup of coffee that is produced has a smooth flavor with almost no sediment.
French Press Coffee Makers – The French Press is one of the easiest ways to make coffee and produces a rich flavor. All you do is put the ground coffee in the glass carafe, pour hot water over it, place the lid/plunger on the carafe and let it brew for about 3 minutes. You then push the plunger down and this filters the coffee by pushing it to the bottom. Another great option is the thermal press. The stainless steel pot (as opposed to glass) keeps the coffee hot for up to 2 hours.
Electric French Press – There are even Electric French Presses out now that boil the water for you. Simply pour the water in and within 4 minutes it is boiling (faster than the stove or microwave). There is an automatic power shut off in case you walk away. The coffee is then added and plunged. Easy, quick and safe!
Drip Coffee Makers – Drip Coffee Makers are great for large groups of people or the serious coffee drinker who wants more than two cups at a time. There is a water tank that actually pre-heats the water so that a pot of coffee can be produced in three minutes! The ground coffee is poured into a filter (gold preferably) and the coffee maker can be run immediately or pre-set with a programmable timer. The timer can be pre-programmed for up to 24 hours. Once the brewing process is started, the water is released into the filter. Most coffee makers have a timer that releases the water in 30 second intervals. This allows the water to saturate the ground coffee and then flow into the pot getting the most out of your ground beans and producing a robust cup of coffee. The brewed coffee is then kept warm on a non-stick warming plate (with a 2 hour automatic shut off) or a thermal carafe that keeps the coffee hot for up to two hours.
One Cup Coffee Makers – The Keurig One Cup Coffee Maker is great for the person on the go. You have your choice of brew size and can brew a cup for a regular mug or a thermal mug to go. This is also a great way to have a different kind of coffee every time you brew a cup. Talk about variety.
Neapolitan Pots – Neapolitan pots are unique. Water is put in one half of the pot. Ground coffee is added to the stainless steel filter basket. The pot is screwed together and placed on the stove. Once the water boils the pot is removed from the stove and then flipped over. This allows the water to drip through the ground coffee producing a rich of coffee.
